Why should we use anti-embolism stockings? Anti-embolism stockings, which fall under the category of varicose stockings, reduce the risk of blood clots forming in your legs during hospitalization. If your doctor determines that your body is at risk of forming blood clots, these stockings will be prescribed as a preventive measure. Blood clots can form in anyone’s body, but the likelihood increases significantly in hospitalized patients. Why? When you are hospitalized for an extended period, your muscles become inactive, resulting in reduced blood circulation in your legs, which creates an opportunity for blood clots to form. Anti-embolism stockings improve venous circulation in the legs and prevent blood clots from forming. Therefore, you should wear them throughout your hospital stay. How to use To ensure the proper functioning of the stockings:

  • Do not roll the stockings down.
  • Ensure the stocking does not twist on your leg and does not slide down.
  • Properly care for the stockings to maintain their durability.
  • Never apply ointments or pain-relief creams before wearing the stockings, as these substances can compromise the elasticity of the stockings.
  • Stockings should be washed every three days. When one pair is washed, use the other pair. You typically need two pairs of stockings.
  • Washing the stockings increases their lifespan, as body sweat can damage the fibers.
  • Wash the stockings with lukewarm water.
  • You can wash the stockings in a washing machine, but do not use bleach.
  • Determine the appropriate size by measuring the length of your leg, thigh circumference, and calf circumference.
  • After removing the stockings, do not roll them; unfold and store them in their original shape.

For easier wear, it is recommended to first turn the stocking inside out to the heel, then place the foot into the bottom of the stocking (like putting on a shoe) and pull the leg part up over the leg. For more comfort when wearing the stockings, follow these steps (as shown in the images). Caution: Ensure you do not choose an inappropriate size, as this will affect the stockings’ functionality. Note: Never use warming ointments or creams before wearing anti-embolism stockings. Washing instructions: Wash with cold water. Do not use bleach. Do not wring after washing. Do not iron.
